On June 12, the “Mathews
Mills Community Health
Celebration at Mathews UMC” was held. A few of the
community volunteers who helped included Dr. Kenneth Nash,
Self Regional Healthcare pharmacists Jimmy Rollins
and Carole Bateman, the
Blood Connection, and
four firefighters from Greenwood City Fire Department.
Representatives participated from various agencies including
the
Alzheimer’s Association,
Best Chance Network,
Wellness Works,
the
Greenwood YMCA, and Piedmont Agency on Aging.
Area Congregational Nurses helped in several areas with
health screenings. We even had four
Piedmont Technical College
Nursing Students who were a tremendous help!

Many volunteers assisted to make this event
successful.
Each one was invaluable. There were more than
forty-four (44) folks who worked to provide health
screenings, health education information, community
awareness, and children’s activities for the morning and
afternoon.
A total of twenty (20) stations were inside the church,
and the Blood Connection and Greenwood City Fire
Department with the Fire Safety House were
located outside.
Also, there was a “Bouncer” (left photo, first row
-and- middle photo, last row) for the children.
A free lunch was provided to those who stayed for the
afternoon activities.
Afternoon games on the lawn were led by Josh
Snelling.
