Privacy policies are designed to provide users with the knowledge needed to control the use of personal information collected on a web site. If users are required to provide personal or confidential information, such as name, address, income or credit information including credit card information, the web site operator should establish a privacy policy to describe how such information will be used, how it is protected, and what the user can do to control the information. Failure of the web site operator to adhere its stated privacy policy may expose the operator to legal action. Where links to third party web sites are provided, the user's use of such site would be subject to that site's privacy policy. Therefore, user's must be aware that they are using a third party site.
