Jesse Nance

Jesse has been a member of Mathews United Methodist Church for the past eighteen years.   When he became a member, he took his vows of time, talent, service very seriously by becoming our Organist and Pianist.

For the last seven years, besides being our Organist and Pianist; Jesse has taken on the responsibility of our music ministry by also serving in the additional capacity as our Choir Director.

Prior to coming to play for us, Jesse was a church musician at Rice Memorial Baptist and Living Word Tabernacle, both churches located in Greenwood.  He also was a church musician at Grace United Methodist in Abbeville.

When not at Mathews UMC,  Jesse is the sole proprietor of JN Art.  When asked what he likes best about his role at Mathews, he simply responded,  “The people.”  You can contact Jesse about how you can get more involved with the Music Ministry at Mathews UMC by emailing him

Ray Snelling

Ray has been a member of Mathews since 1952 and has been serving as our custodian and groundskeeper for the last fourteen years.  Prior to his retirement, Ray was self-employed as the owner-operator of a washerette and a janitorial service.

Ray was married to Joann Underwood who past away in June, 1997. He has four children (Melinda, Chip, Janet, and David) and six grandchildren who are "the apple of my eye."

When asked what he likes best about his job at Mathews, Ray said, “I feel like I’m doing a little service here, I’m helping out.”
